Play QUORDY for 1 minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes, or without a time limit; choose the duration of your game by touching the "3 min" button. The "3+ letters/word" button allows you to select the minimum word length allowed. Choose "full word list" to select a dictionary; dictionaries are based on the 2006 Tournament Word List.
Shake to begin, or slide your finger across the screen. (You will also find an option in the "Settings" menu that allows you to turn off "Shake to Begin," so that merely touching the screen will start a game; find the "Settings" menu by touching the "i" button.)
It's time to play! Touch the first letter of the word you want to make, then slide your finger to the next letter in your word. As long as the letter tiles connect--in any direction--you're on your way. You may not use any one tile more than once in a single word.
When you complete a word, lift your finger from the screen. If QUORDY accepts it, the word will be added to your list. If the word is not recognized by the QUORDY dictionary you have selected, it will display in red letters and will not be added to your list.
Three- and four-letter words are worth one point each. A five-letter word earns you two points, a six-letter word, three points, and a seven-letter word, five points. Words of eight or more letters earn 11 points each. The "Qu" tile counts as two letters.
Any one word may count only once in your list, even if you find it in more than one place on the board. If you make both the singular and plural forms of the same word (e.g. "taco" and "tacos"), both words will be added to your list.
